Is your dog a nervous nelly who trembles or hides in new places? Are they fearful of loud noises or the great big world outside? Are they generally timid or shy?
This class is all about helping shy or fearful dogs feel more comfortable in the world! We take a multimodal approach to fearful behavior and bring in elements of enrichment, nosework, and trick training, in addition to frameworks that will strengthen your relationship with your dog and provide deeper insight into their behavior. We'll cover things you can do right now to help your dog's fear, as well as long-term strategies to help them be more confident in the world.
The virtual learning environment is perfect for dogs whose behavior prevents access to effective learning in-person, and works at a pace that they can be successful with.
FAQs:
Is this class for beginners or for folks already working on fear?
This is a class designed for people just starting to work with their dog's fear! If you've already been working with an Every Dog trainer on your dog's behavior and you have management/enrichment plans in place and know some pattern games, this class will be covering information you already know.
Will this help my dog who shows aggression toward strangers? Or who gets in fights with our other dog at home? Or my dog who's reactive?
This class is designed for dogs who are generally fearful! If your dog is showing reactivity or aggression, check out our behavior consulting option.
Should I take this class if my dog has only one specific fear- like vet visits, the vacuum cleaner, or thunderstorms?
This class will cover a variety of fears, but is best suited for dogs who show general fear in multiple environments.
Why is this class virtual? Why can’t we do in-person so you can see what my dog does when he's afraid?
We believe you! Our goal is actually to prevent recreating the behaviors we want to change. Instead, we’ll teach you effective skills from home where your dog can learn comfortably.
Even if we started with private lessons, we’d need to give you all this information. This virtual class is an affordable, low-stress way to prepare both you and your dog for future training.
Does my dog need to be with me during virtual class time?
Yes! After the first session, plan to have your dog with you. You'll practice skills live with real-time feedback from your instructor.
Will my dog’s fear be fixed by the end of this class?
Probably not! This class is designed to give you the essential skills to begin addressing fear and anxiety. Our focus is on creating lasting change, not quick fixes, so you and your dog can build sustainable skills together.
Will the class be recorded if I have to miss a week?
Yes! Recordings will be available for a limited time after the course so you can re-watch or watch any sessions you might need to miss.
